Recently Wayne was named Frankston’s 2025 Citizen of the Year. A very worthy honour for Wayne in recognition of his exceptional volunteering and putting service over self.
In 2024, Wayne was a Finalist for the Australian of the Year – Victoria. Wayne was nominated for his bravery and inspiring actions in the face of the tragedy of losing his beloved son Mac, 17, who took his own life in 2023 after being sexually extorted.
In addition to Wayne’s charity work, he also has expertise in his everyday work as a sports administrator. Currently CEO of the Frankston and District Basketball Association, he was last year named The Jack Carter Memorial Administrator of the Year Award by Basketball Victoria.
Wayne was also head of the 2022 Association of the Year Award from Basketball Victoria. In addition, he was also a Finalist in Excellence in Creating Inclusive Communities in the 2022 Victorian Disability Awards.
In 2023, spearheaded by Wayne, the Frankston and District Basketball Association was named the Basketball Inclusive Association of the Year. In the same year, Wayne was awarded NBL One Club Executive of the Year.
Wayne’s professional history includes more than 20 years in sports administration in a variety of sports including the AFL and AFL Victoria.
He has also been a volunteer for more than 25 years in his local sporting community. This has included being President, Secretary, Treasurer and committee member for various sporting clubs at the same time as coaching players from Under 9 through to senior Australian Football.
Wayne has also been on various committees including a current role on the Sport Recreation Advisory Committee for the Frankston City Council for the past three years.
In addition, Wayne was a volunteer on the Grants Advisory Committee for the Federal Seat of Dunkley, then held by the late Peta Murphy.
